A gentle indoor flower spathiphyllum, or "female happiness," is loved by many growers. Some people are attracted by its simple, but elegant white flowers. There are also those who are delighted with the dark green shiny leaves of the spathiphyllum. However, unfortunately, for all its comparative unpretentiousness, sometimes the flower loses its attractive appearance. Most often, flower growers complain that the spathiphyllum turns yellow and the leaves turn black. Let's see why this happens.
Why do the spathiphyllum blacken the leaves?
Usually, problems with growing indoor plants are associated with inaccuracies in care. For example, most often the plants blacken leaves due to excessive dryness in the room. The fact is that many residents of window sills have roots from tropical regions, where almost every day there are showers. They are closer constant high humidity, and therefore the dry air of our homes due to central heating is atypical, and therefore destructive. The same applies to spathiphyllum, which in the wild prefers to grow along streams, marshes and rivers.
Often happens and so, that at спатифиллума because of illness blacken leaves. And to the disease itself leads to overmoistening. As you can see, excessive watering, like its absence, is equally harmful to the plant. Excessive moisture contributes to the development of pathogenic fungi, for example, black rot. It affects the roots of the flower, its stem, and then leaves, covering with black spots.
Another reason why the spathiphyllum leaves turn black, there may be a need for additional fertilizing. Most plants for growth and flowering need fertilizers containing phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen. In their absence or irregularity, "female happiness" reacts with blackening of the tips of sharp leaves.
What should I do if the spathiphyllum is blackened with leaves?
To your room favorite came back to normal and again pleased you with green foliage, it is necessary to eliminate the causes that caused such unpleasant changes. The most dangerous cause of blackening of the leaves is overmoistening and, accordingly, black rot. If the time is not taken, the spathiphyllum will simply perish. First of all, it is necessary to remove the flower from the pot, the damaged roots and leaves to remove, and the whole - to handle the activated powder. Then the flower is transplanted into a new pot with a new primer.
With a lack of moisture, spathiphyllum should often be sprayed, and also put in a stone filled pallet with water.
Top dressing with complex fertilizers for flowering plants is carried out from spring to autumn every two weeks.
